REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR
AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: ROBERT A. BRADY
CITY MANAGER
DATE: DECEMBER 23, 2008
SUBJECT: CITY CLERK RECRUITMENT
Background
Recruitment for the City Clerk position began on October 29, 2008. The closing date for
submitting applications was December 15, 2008. A total of 32 applications were
received.
Discussion
The attached City Clerk Recruitment timeline outlines the schedule and process to
select a person for the City Clerk position. The tentative start date for the new City
Clerk is Monday, March 16, 2009. As with past recruitments, the City Council has
appointed a sub - committee consisting of two Council members to review the
applications and conduct the first round of interviews. The entire City Council would
interview the top candidates selected by the sub - committee. Depending on the number
of candidates to be interviewed, the interviews could be held during the regular closed
session on Tuesday, January 27, 2009.
The Mayor has suggested that Mayor Pro Tem Melendez and Councilwoman Bhutta be
appointed to the sub - committee to conduct the initial selection of candidates and the
first interview.
Fiscal Impact
Recruitment for the City Clerk has been handled in -house and the associated costs
have been included as part of the existing budget. No additional funds will need to be
allocated for the recruitment process.
