BRADY CITY MANAGER DATE: NOVEMBER 10, 2009 SUBJECT: STREET CLOSURES FOR "PUT UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY PARADE" Background The Annual "Put Unity in the Community Parade" is scheduled for Saturday, November 21 between 10:00 a.m. to Noon. This year's theme is "Celebrate Families ", in recognition of families who have members fighting cancer. Participation is open to all groups in the community. The annual parade features school bands and clubs, girl & boy scout troops, civic clubs, parent groups, businesses, churches, Sheriffs Department, Fire Department and City Council. The parade organizers are Jeanie Corral and Kathye Aniol, with support provided by City Staff. Discussion The parade is staged by Elsinore Middle School. The parade route follows Graham Avenue to Main Street to Heald Avenue and back to Elsinore Middle School. The following temporary street closures are required from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. • Lewis Street from Heald Ave. to Graham Ave. • Graham Avenue from Silver Street to Main Street. • Main Street from Graham Ave. to Heald Ave. • Heald Avenue from Main Street to Campus Street. A detour route will be provided around the parade route. Fiscal Impact There are no direct costs to the City for supporting the Unity Parade; however the City will incur indirect costs for Sheriffs and City Staff's time to support the event. Recommendation Approve temporary street closures for the Unity Parade on November 21 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon for Lewis Street, Graham Avenue, Main Street and Heald Avenue.
