SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONTRACT SIERRA PACIFIC ELECTRIC
Background
The traffic signal located at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Chaney Street has
uses a video detection system to identify that a vehicle is waiting at the intersection. The
video detection system works in conjunction with a signal computer and controls the
traffic flow at the intersection. The existing video detection system is approximately 15
years old and is not functioning properly. Therefore, staff solicited for bids to replace the
video detection system.
Discussion
Staff met with three companies and requested proposals for the replacement and
installation of a new video detection system for the intersection. All three companies
submitted proposals. The proposals are as follows:
$18,743 - Sierra Pacific Electrical Contracting
$20,729 - DBX Inc.
$22,769 - Macadee Electrical
Fiscal Impact
This project has been funded in the 2010-2011 Capital Improvement Program using
LLMD fund 435 which is dedicated to streetlight maintenance. Sufficient funds are
available in this account.
Recommendation
Staff recommends the City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into an
agreement in the amount of $18,743 with Sierra Pacific Electrical to provide and install a
video detection system at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Chaney Street.

detection at the intersection of Lakeshore & Chaney per email request on November
30, 2010.
LUMP SUM: $22,769.00
Bid price includes labor, equipment, materials and traffic control to install 3-camera
video detection system [(1) Vrack w/Edge 2 Processors, TS2 Module w/ BID and
power supply, (3) AWDR cameras, (3) camera brackets, turn-on support, 16/3 S]OW
and coaxial cable (1000] per emalled request for quote. Cables to be installed by
"slip method". Price excludes repair or replacement of any existing damaged
conductors, conduits, pull boxes, traffic signal or controller equipment and bonds or
permits. Price is valid for 30 days.
