SUBJECT: STREET CLOSURES AND DISBURSEMENTS FOR "UNITY IN
THE COMMUNITY PARADE"
Background
The Annual "Unity in the Community Parade" is being re-scheduled by the
Parade Committee for Saturday, February 26th, between 10:00 a.m. to Noon.
The parade is sponsored by the Lake Elsinore Unified School District, City of
Lake Elsinore, Cops for Kids and local churches.
This year's theme is "Celebrate Our American Life", in tribute to our country's rich
history, traditions and culture. Participation is open to all groups in the
community. The annual parade features school bands & clubs, girl & boy scout
troops, civic clubs, parent groups, businesses, churches, Sheriffs Department,
Fire Department and City Council.
Discussion
The parade will be staged by Elsinore Middle School. The parade route follows
Graham Avenue to Main Street to Heald Avenue and ends near Elsinore
Elementary at Lindsay Street. The following temporary street closures are
required from 6:00 a.m. to Noon.
• Graham Avenue from Silver Street to Main Street.
• Main Street from Graham Avenue to Heald Avenue.
• Heald Avenue from Main Street to Campus Street.
A detour route will be provided around the parade route. City Staff will implement
the proposed street closures by installing temporary barricades and traffic signs
as depicted on the attached parade route mapping.

Fiscal Impact

The cost of insurance for the parade equals $1,542.50 and is budgeted under the
Parks & Recreation Department for FYI 0-11. The cost of providing City Staff to
work the event is estimated at $1,783.50, which will be expensed from the City's
unallocated General Fund Revenue. The City's estimated total cost to participate
in the event is $3,326.
Recommendation
Approve temporary street closures for the Unity Parade on February 26th and
disbursements in the amount of $3,326.
