` DREAM EXTREME-
REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR
AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: ROBERT A. BRADY
CITY MANAGER
DATE: FEBRUARY 23, 2010
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF COMPACT TRACTOR
Background
The City is experiencing a large expense for rental of a compact tractor for street and
storm drain maintenance operations. Because of the needs of the Public Works, Lakes,
and Parks maintenance operations, a rental tractor has been used to supplement the
workload of the City owned compact tractor.
Discussion
The City is in need of a compact tractor to be used for cleaning of storm drains, gutters,
and catch basins. Funding for this purchase is available in the City's NPDES (National
Pollution Discharge Elimination System) fund. These funds are specifically designated
for use for storm system maintenance and related expenses.
The purchase of an additional compact tractor would reduce our equipment rental costs
and improve efficiency in the City's maintenance operations by increasing the
availability and use of a compact tractor for all departments.
Staff has located a used unit that is available from a vendor in Riverside, California.
Inland Bobcat has a 2007 A300 Bobcat Skid Steer compact tractor for sale for $27,188
(includes tax). The same make and model compact tractor purchased new would cost
the City approximately $60,000.
Fiscal Impact
Funding in the amount of $27,188 is requested from the City's NPDES fund for the
purchase of this equipment.
