DREAM EXTREMEm
REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR
AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: ROBERT A. BRADY
CITY MANAGER
DATE: JUNE 8, 2010
SUBJECT: PUBLIC MEETING ON 2010 JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT
Background
The City of Lake Elsinore has applied for a grant under the Justice Assistance Grant
Program (JAG). JAG replaced the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG). The
$20,042 grant is administered by the Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA).
Discussion
These funds are to be utilized by the Lake Elsinore Police Department to support a
variety of activities to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system
within the City. One of the requirements of the application process for the JAG Grant
Program is to hold a public meeting.
Fiscal Impact
The $20,042 from the JAG Program will be used to purchase one Mobile Law
Enforcement Automatic License Plate Reader system (ALPR). This technology will
increase law enforcement ability to identify vehicles of interest, such as stolen vehicles,
vehicles associated with wanted persons, missing persons, Amber Alerts, All Points
Bulletins, and National Crime Information Center advisements. There is no City match
requirement for this grant.
Recommendations
It is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve the application for these
JAG Grant Program Funds offered by the Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance.
